Kalkidan is a 21 year old young woman that lives in the Gulele area of Addis Ababa with her mother and younger sister. Her parents are divorced. Kalkidan's mother supports the family by working in a bakery. Kalikidan graduated from high school (12th grade) and was placed in a public college in a small town in Ethiopia. She repeatedly became ill from the food and/or water at the school like many students from the big city and later dropped out. Kalkidan is desperate to start a career and help her mother as well as take care of herself. She would also like to go to school at night so she can work in the daytime and earn extra income for her family. Kalkidan has chosen to study Hotel Management as it is a rapidly growing industry in Addis Ababa.EBS Inc. will enroll Kalkidan in Lion Ethiopia Tourism and Hotel College beginning in February 2012 for a year long Hotel Management program at a cost of 270Birr ($15) a month. EBS will also cove Kalkidan's transportation, supply, and healthcare costs.
